Specializing in new construction, renovations, additions, and commercial projects.

Drywall finishing services

HDR Drywall provides professional drywall taping and finishing for builders, contractors, and homeowners across the Halifax region. The focus is on larger-scale work, including new construction, renovations, additions, basement developments, and commercial projects.

Whether it’s a full home build or a multi-room renovation, the goal is consistent: smooth, clean, paint-ready walls finished to a high standard.

We typically work with clients who need reliable, detail-focused finishing across an entire project, delivered on schedule and with care for the surrounding worksite.

Leave the mess to me

rywall finishing is one of the final stages that defines the look and feel of a space. Clean lines, even surfaces, and proper finishing make a noticeable difference once paint goes on.

With over 18 years of experience, I take a straightforward, detail-oriented approach to every job. I focus on clean workmanship, consistent results, and getting the job done right.

How it’s done!

Three coats in total.

  • First coat: All drywall joints and corners are covered with Durabond. Paper tape gets applied to all the angles, and the corner beads get installed.

  • Second coat: Drywall compound is put on everything, left to dry, and then sanded.

  • Third coat: One last layer of compound is applied, and then, (this is where it gets messy!) the final sand.

  • Finial touch-ups to get that smooth finish and we’re Done!

FAQ

Do you hang drywall?

Yes, we have a very skilled crew that installs the drywall.

Isn’t drywalling taping?

In short, no. There are contractors with just drywall skills who hang the drywall, then typically you would require a Taper! Someone to come in and put mud (drywall compound) on to smooth out the walls and make them ready for paint!

What if I put up the drywall myself?

I hear this a lot. If you're not familiar with installing drywall then it’s best not to. More often than not it will create more work for me to come behind and tape. There is a particular way it must be installed to ensure the joints are correct.

About Matt Handspiker

My experience in drywall taping started 18 years ago when I began working for a small business. From there, I became employed with a larger contract company in the Halifax area and expanded my skillset and experience. I furthered my education when I went back to school to complete Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.

From my many years of experience, I understand the difficulty around renovations and the stress that comes along with finding a reliable contractor. Knowing all this I keep that in mind whenever pricing a job or committing to one. Ensuring I’m able to stay on budget and on time.
